Playa de los Pocillos stretches for more than 1 km along Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen. We enjoyed its laid-back atmosphere, with its palm-lined seaside promenade and large sandy beach opening out onto the Atlantic. In this article, check out our photos and all our tips for making the most of your visit to Playa de los Pocillos.

Is Playa de los Pocillos worth the trip?
Yes, it’s a beautiful beach and well worth a visit. This stretch of sand is part of Puerto del Carmen’s “Grandes Playas,” alongside Playa Grande and Playa Matagorda, between which it is located.
The long seaside promenade that runs along it is also perfect for a stroll, with a great selection of shops, bars, and restaurants right on the beach. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto del Carmen and also one of the town’s main attractions.

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
The beach at Playa de los Pocillos is made up of fine, golden sand. We loved lying on the sand and walking barefoot there; the beach was wide enough to lay out our towels without being too cramped. The slope is very gentle across the entire surface, so that at high tide, small puddles may form in some places.

As a result, this setup is perfect for both relaxation and beach games.
Some sections of the beach have small lava rocks.

Swimming conditions and supervision
The waters at Playa de los Pocillos are calm, and the wind there is generally moderate, making for a pleasant swim. Thanks to its width, the beach is ideal for both a leisurely swim and sports activities such as soccer or rugby on the sand.

The beach is very large. Supervision and service conditions vary from section to section.
We didn’t see any security cameras while we were there.

Installations
We found public showers and restrooms right on the beach.
However, the beach is very large, so depending on where you set up, you may have to walk to reach them.

You can also rent beach chairs and umbrellas here, just as you can at the other Grandes Playas in Puerto del Carmen.
The boardwalk along the beach features a wide variety of shops and restaurants.

Where is Playa de los Pocillos? – Map
- In Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote
- Along Avenida de las Playas
- Between Playa Grande and Playa Matagorda
- Here is a map to help you find your way:

Access by car and parking
To get to Playa de los Pocillos by car from Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, take the LZ-40 highway south toward Puerto del Carmen. We noticed that there is a parking lot near the beach, which makes it easy to get there by car. As with the rest of the Puerto del Carmen coastline, however, it’s best to expect larger crowds during the high season.
OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Lanzarote
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- Demand is high, so book early.

Access from the parking lot
From the parking lot, you can walk directly to the beach along Avenida de las Playas. We found the walk to be quick and easy, since the parking area was close to the beach. The seaside promenade that runs along the beach makes it easy to walk from one end of the beach to the other.

Public transport access
Playa de los Pocillos is served by Line 2 of the island’s bus (guagua) system.
And the boardwalk runs continuously from the center of Puerto del Carmen.

Special features
Dog
We didn’t see any signs about dog access to the beach.
Reduced mobility access
This beach is accessible to people with reduced mobility. We noticed several dedicated amenities: reserved parking spaces, a ramp, a walkway built on the sand, and a private shaded area. As a result, Playa de los Pocillos is one of the best-equipped beaches in Puerto del Carmen in this regard.

With children
We visited a children’s playground near the beach. The very gentle slope of the sandy beach and the calm waters also make for ideal conditions for a family outing. However, keep in mind that at high tide, a few puddles may form on the sand because the beach is flat.

Naturism
It is not possible to practice naturism on this beach.
Eating out
Along the Paseo Marítimo, you’ll find restaurants, especially at the eastern end of the beach or between Playa de los Pocillos and Playa Matagorda, both of which are located to the northeast.

Tower in the middle of the beach
Along the promenade, you’ll also spot a tower.
You can climb up there to enjoy a better view of the sandy expanse.
