1. Playa Grande
Why do we love it?
Playa Grande is definitely one of Lanzarote’s most popular beaches, and the largest in the town center.
We love its kilometer-long shoreline of golden sand and its depth, where everyone can find a little space.
What’s more, its orientation is perfect for admiring the mountains of southern Lanzarote, the oldest part of the island.
On the beach you’ll find sun loungers, pedal boat and paddle rentals, showers… and anything else you might need. And along the square is the main avenue with its many restaurants and stores.
More photos in our article dedicated to Playa Grande.

2. Playa Chica
Why do we love it?
Playa Chica is our favorite beach in Puerto del Carmen.
It’s a charming little cove, 60 m long. It is surrounded by a rocky barrier, creating a natural pool with calm waters.
It offers magnificent mountain views over southern Lanzarote. And we found the sand very fine and the water quite transparent. She enchanted us.
If you like snorkeling, this is also a great choice.

3. Playa La Penita
Why do we love it?
Playa La Penita is hidden, and that’s what we like!
At this point, the seafront promenade doesn’t lead directly to the beach, but rather to houses and hotels.
You don’t know when there’s a beach or just rocks.
On the hotel level of one of Lanzarote’s best luxury hotels (Lani’s Suites) is a pretty little beach of golden sand and black rocks, surrounded by small white buildings and overlooking the southern mountains.
We love the mix of urban and natural environments.

- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- Demand is high, so book early.
4. Playa de los Pocillos
Why do we love it?
Playa de los Pocillos is Puerto del Carmen’s other very large beach. Many of the city’s resorts are located next to this beach.
Playa de los Pocillos is one of Puerto del Carmen’s best beaches for families, with shallow areas depending on the tide.
There are also a few games for the kids and plenty of space for everyone.
Access from Puerto del Carmen
East of the city
Easy access from the seafront promenade.
There are parking spaces in the surrounding streets, so the further away you are from the beach, the more likely you are to find a space. The streets here are flat, so a 5-minute walk to the beach is not difficult.

5. Beach in front of Hotel Fariones (not the private beach)
Why do we love it?
In front of the famous Hotel Fariones, not far from Playa Grande, you’ll find small coves.
The Fariones has its own private beach, but afterwards there’s a sandy cove surrounded by rock formations that’s accessible to everyone.
It’s absolutely charming, with rocks that will keep children amused.
And at certain times of the day you can find a tiny bit of shade.
We haven’t found an official name for this beach.
Access from Puerto del Carmen
No direct access from the streets, you have to walk along the seafront promenade which starts at the end of Playa Grande and passes in front of the Hotel Fariones.
Parking in the streets around the hotel, but not easy to find.

- Unsupervised beach
- Shower at the end of the beach

6. Playa Grande Est / Playa Vulcano
Why do we love it?
At the eastern end of Playa Grande is another beach. It’s really an extension, so it’s not always considered separate, but since the conditions there are different, we’re listing it separately.
It’s more of a beach for lying back and sunbathing, as there are quite a few rocks to get into the water.
Access from Puerot del Carmen
Easy access from the seafront promenade.
Parking in the surrounding streets, but not easy to find.
Practical information
- Golden-white sand and black rocks at the water’s edge

7. Playa Matagorda
Why do we love it?
If you’re looking for a quiet beach in Puerto del Carmen, one of the best options is Playa Matagorda. It’s windier, but ideal for those who like to walk with their feet in the water or have more space on the sand.
At one end, you’ll also find a small tower for a bit of height. And all the way along, we really appreciated the landscaping of the seafront promenade.
Access from Puerto del Carmen
Easy access from the seafront promenade. A few parking spaces in the surrounding streets. But it’s best to park away from the waterfront and come on foot.
Practical information

- Showers at several beach exits
- A few deckchairs
- Restaurants a little further up the street
- The beach faces south

8. Playa El Baranquillo
Why do we love it?
Playa El Barranquillo is less well-known and therefore much quieter, despite being right in the center of town.
It’s a charming cove that’s easily visible from the seafront promenade.
We appreciate the sloping access to the sea, and the fact that it’s set back from the road without having any buildings next to it. It’s a slightly wilder urban beach!
Access from Puerto del Carmen
Sloping path from the seafront promenade, east of the center of Puerto del Carmen.
Few parking spaces in the surrounding streets.
Practical information
- Golden-white sand with a little black, and rocks
- Unsupervised beach
- Shower at the end of the beach
- Restaurants in the street above the beach

Other beaches around Puerto del Carmen
Playa Lima – airplane beach
Playa Lima is right next to Lanzarote airport. Its stretch of sand is the perfect place to spread a towel, lie in the sun and watch the planes fly overhead.
Because of its proximity to the airport, this beach is quiet and not very busy.
