In this article, we share our selection of the most beautiful towns and villages on Lanzarote.
This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.

1. Teguise

5. Females

Femés is a quiet village nestled at the top of a valley.
It is one of the few villages to offer superb panoramic views from “el Balcon de Femés”.
Historically, Femés was a center for goat breeding and cheese production.

Why we love it
Tenesar is sometimes referred to as Lanzarote’s “lost village”. It’s isolated, far from other tourist spots, so people don’t visit.
Yet it’s home to a charming little village, waves crashing on basalt rocks and bright red crabs!
It’s one of our favorite places off the beaten track.

5 Lanzarote towns and resorts
Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca is our favorite big town in Lanzarote.
We liked the size of the town, the beaches, the promenade along the water, but not along the road.
It has a relaxed atmosphere which we appreciated.
The town has different sections around the beaches and at the eastern end, the Rubicon Marina with its public swimming pool and lots of choice of restaurants.
You can:
- Enjoy the beaches
- Stroll along the waterfront
- Hiking in Papagayo
- Climb to the summit of Montana Roja volcano
- Fun at the Aqualava water park
- Enjoy the marina atmosphere
See our article on the best activities in Playa Blanca.
Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen is the most famous and largest of all Lanzarote’s seaside towns. It has everything you need: beaches, casino, shopping, fun activities, zoos, golf… The town is quite spread out. It takes a long time to get from the marina to the other end.
You can:
- Enjoy the great beaches
- Take a boat trip to see the dolphins
- Learn to dive
- Rancho Texas Park with zoo and water park
- Go catamaran sailing, parasailing, jet skiing, paddling…
See our article on the best activities in Puerto del Carmen.
Costa Teguise
Costa Teguise was developed for tourism. As a result, you’ll find very practical facilities and plenty of parking close to the beaches (which is not the case with other seaside resorts). But it has less charm, in our opinion.
You can:
- Enjoy the beach
- Fun in the water at AquaPark
- Visit the aquarium
- Water sports
See our article on the best things to do in Costa Teguise.
Arrecife
Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote.
You can visit the old town of San Gines, with its small port, church and fort.
You can:
- Visit the old town with its natural harbour Charco de San Gines
- Visit the church
- Head out to sea to visit the Castillo San Gabriel
Puerto Calero
If you’re looking for an exclusive marina, stores and restaurants, Puerto Calero is famous for its high level of service. It’s a pretty relaxing place, centered around the harbor with views of the mountains.
You can:
- Go sailing
- Enjoy a seaside hike in Puerto del Carmen
- Climb aboard the yellow submarine
- Take the ferry to Puerto del Carmen
Orzola
Orzola, located in the extreme north of the island, is the gateway town to the island of La Graciosa.
It’s a charming little town of white architecture, with the hills in the background.
