Here are our useful tips for planning your visit to Playa Montana Roja beach in the town of Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.

Is Montana Roja beach worth it?
Yes, it’s a beach worth visiting.
It’s not a beach for those who want to walk in the sand or make sandcastles.
But if you like geological sights and snorkeling, you’ll be delighted.

And to the west of the beach, you have fascinating rock mixes with gray areas, red areas and different types of structures. The beach is not far from the Montana Roja volcano.
Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
The beach soil is a mixture of medium-grained white sand, pebbles and larger boulders.
There isn’t much sand and you have to navigate between the pebbles to reach the water.
Sand was transported under the deckchairs.
Swimming conditions and supervision
The beach is not supervised.
The access slope to the water is moderate.
Be careful when a ferry passes offshore, it creates waves.
Thanks to the rocks, it’s an excellent beach for snorkeling.
Installations
We didn’t see any showers or toilets on the beach. Just a tap to rinse your feet.

Where Montana Roja beach is located
- In the town of Playa Blanca
- On the western edge of the seaside resort
- From downtown = 30-50 min walk or 10 min drive

OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Lanzarote

- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- Demand is high, so book early.
Access by foot, car and parking lot
Along the seafront, there is no parking adjacent to the beach.
You have to park in the streets around the hotels.
From the town center, there’s a lovely seafront promenade that’s within walking distance. It’s a pleasant 50-minute walk.
Special features
Dog
We didn’t see any signs regarding dog access to the beach.
Reduced mobility access
There are no facilities for disabled access.
With children
There are no children’s games around.
But the rocks are great for kids who love to climb and explore.
Naturism
It is not possible to practice naturism on this beach.
Eating out
There’s a beachside bar: Chiringuito Bar Tropical.
On the other hand, you’re on the west side of Playa Blanca and there are few restaurants in this area, mostly hotels.
In the town center you have more choice, see our selection of restaurants.
