Why visit Playa Dorada in Playa Blanca?
Is the beach worth it?
Playa Dorada is definitely worth a visit in our opinion. We particularly appreciated the white sand, translucent water and proximity to restaurants and bars. This is one of Playa Blanca’s most famous beaches, so it gets a lot of traffic.
This is one of Playa Blanca’s most beautiful beaches.
Thanks to its relatively long length, you’ll be able to find less touristy spots with just a short walk. And if you’re looking to relax, it’s easy to rent deckchairs and parasols for the day. For those looking for a bit of adventure, you can also enjoy water activities such as snorkeling. We recommend you read our review of the Hotel Princesa Yaiza, as this establishment has direct access to the beach.
Why choose it?
Playa Dorada is an ideal destination for an enjoyable experience with family and friends. This is a tourist beach with lifeguard surveillance. Here are the 3 main reasons why we think you should consider visiting:

- a great choice of restaurants: the beach is surrounded by several bars and restaurants overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The setting is really nice!

On the sand and in the water… practical advice
Best time to visit
The best time of year to go to Playa Dorada in Lanzarote depends on individual preferences. However, the peak tourist season on the Canary Islands is between December and April, but also during the 2 summer months, which means that the beach will be busier at these times. If you prefer to avoid the crowds, we recommend visiting outside these months.
As for the best time of day, it’s best to visit the beach early in the morning or late in the afternoon, to avoid the heat peak and enjoy more peace and quiet. Playa Dorada is a popular tourist beach.
Beach type and size
The beach floor is mainly made up of fine white sand, making it a pleasant place to bask in the sun and swim in the clear waters. We observed a few small pebbles at the water’s edge. There are also rocks jutting out into the ocean, adding further charm to the landscape. You’ll find some great spots for observing underwater life.
Playa Dorada is quite long and wide. There are plenty of deckchairs for those in search of relaxation! We really enjoyed dipping our feet in the water and walking along the beach.
Conditions for swimming
As for the slope and depth of the water at Playa Dorada in Lanzarote, the descent will be gentle. It is accessible to all, including children. As for the quality of the water, it’s often translucent and a magnificent turquoise blue. However, as on all beaches, it is important to remain vigilant and to respect the safety rules at sea. There’s a well-marked supervised swimming area, and snorkeling and fish watching are easy.
Facilities and activities
Monitoring
The beach is supervised for the safety of bathers.
Showers, toilets, deckchairs…
On the beach, we observed outdoor showers. However, we noticed that there was no toilet. If you need to, we recommend a bar or restaurant close to the beach. You can also rent deckchairs and parasols for €12 a day.
Shadow
Unfortunately, there are no shady spots at Playa Dorada, but visitors can rent umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun.
Nautical activities
On this beach, you’ll be able to enjoy a wide range of water sports. During the tourist season, pedalos, paddles and kayaks are available for hire. You can also snorkel along the rocks. We recommend you bring your own masks and snorkels to explore the seabed in Playa Blanca bay.
Catering
Adjacent to the beach, you’ll find a variety of bars and restaurants so you can enjoy the scenery while you eat. Several options are available to suit all tastes:
- Restaurant The Harp: this Irish pub offers a wide range of dishes and drinks at reasonable prices. Major sporting events are also broadcast there in the evening.
- Dorada Bar: located to the east of the beach, you can order sandwiches, pizzas and snacks on the bar’s large terrace.
- Nautica Bar: located to the west, perched on a row of rocks, this bar also offers small snacks in an exceptional setting.
- Restaurant Playa Dorada: located in the center of the beach, this restaurant boasts a breathtaking view of the ocean, and offers a range of Spanish and international dishes.
