This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.
Is a visit to Giniginamar worthwhile?
Yes, if you like small, isolated villages.
Giniginamar is particularly popular with those looking for a little peace and quiet on this very touristy island: a beautiful black beach, a charming village and very few buildings!
It’s one of our favorite places off the beaten track.
The beach: Playa de Giniginamar
Giniginamar beach is a beautiful 500-metre-long cove.
The soil is a mixture of grey pebbles and black sand.
Prefer low tide for more sand.
If you like snorkeling, go to the east of the beach, at the foot of the cliffs, where the fish like to congregate.
- Unsupervised beach
- Showers on the beach
- The slope leading into the water seemed gentle enough
OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Fuerteventura
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- Demand is high, so book early.
Village of Giniginamar
The village is fairly typical of the Canary Islands, but perhaps a little less picturesque than Pozo Negro. It’s a fishing village like many others on the coast of Fuerteventura.
The main street is lined with lime-covered cube-shaped houses.
Church: Iglesia del Carmen
On the main street, you’ll also find a small church.
We didn’t get to see the inside, but we found the outside quite surprising. We haven’t seen any other churches in this style in the Canary Islands, with a pediment of this shape and a textured wall.
The stained glass windows looked interesting, too bad we couldn’t get in.
HAVE FUN WITH THESE activities
- Dolphin watching
- Boat to Lobos Island
- Buggy tour
- But also; surfing lessons, 4WD tour in Cofete, windsurfing, scuba diving…
Shell drawings
The other special feature of Giniginamar is the house decorated with shells.
You’ll see decorations in geometric shapes or representing boats.
Someone had a lot of patience and fun creating these unique decors.

Access by car and parking
Easy access by car. The road is paved all the way to the village.
It’s a short detour, straight ahead: Routte FV-525 from the main road FV-2.
It has no public transport (from what we saw) and we couldn’t find any organized tours to it.
