About the natural pools of Fuerteventura – map
First and foremost, we would like to remind you that the natural pools appear mainly at low tide, but that tidal coefficients are more or less important.
Be careful not to stay too long after low tide, as the waves can crash over the pool rocks.
Safety first!
Here is a map to help you find your way:
1. Aguas Verdes natural pools
Why we love
The Aguas Verdes natural pools are absolutely the most beautiful on the island.
They are isolated on the west coast, which means there are few tourists (especially when the tide is out early in the morning…).
In fact, they’re one of our favorites on Fuerteventura.
There are several pools, one of which is quite large and deep. The water is transparent and really makes you want to swim.
And the best thing about these pools are the rocks around them, because we love geology. The shapes and colors are magnificent, with different types of rock and structure. All this is combined with views of the coastline, which is magnificent.
If it hadn’t been for the uphill climb, we’d have stayed for half a day!
Practical advice
- Location: Playa del Valle, West Coast
- Corralejo to Playa del Valle = 45min drive
- Morro Jable to Playa des Valle = 1h15 drive
- The last 500m of the road is unpaved
- Once on the beach, climb the rocks on the right.
- Wear good shoes, as the rocks are not easy to climb.
- Be careful not to stay long after low tide.
OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Fuerteventura
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- Demand is high, so book early.
2. Caleta de Fuste natural pool (not so secret)
Why we love
Often referred to as the secret rock pool, it is now well known. It’s the one people think of when they hear “Fuerteventura’s natural swimming pool”. Probably because it’s quite wide, deep and easier to access than others.
Located in the tourist town of Caleta de Fuste, it also only appears at low tide.
From the seafront promenade, you’d never know it was here. Once you’ve reached the promontory, you’ll have to scramble over the rocks to see it from above. It’s quite surprising! It’s like a giant hole!
Practical advice
- In the town of Caleta de Fuste, on the east coast of Spain
- Corralejo to Caleta de Fuste = 40min drive
- Morro Jable to Caleta de Fuste = 1h drive
- 10min walk along the promenade to reach the promontory, south of Playa Caleta Corcha
- Then you have to scramble over the rocks to see the pool, and even more to reach it. Wear good shoes.
- If low tide is during the “easy” hours of the day, you should also be aware that there will be people watching you swim.
3. Natural pools at Puertito de los Molinos
Why we love
First of all, we love it because Puertito de los Molinos is a beautiful, adorable place.
It has a lot to offer: a few white houses of a fishing village, a beautiful golden sandy beach, a colorful cliff, and rocks with natural pools.
Frankly, even if you don’t climb to get into the natural pool, it’s well worth the detour (but beware of dangerous currents).
The natural pools are less defined than at the two previous sites, but the rocky areas to the right of the beach create small pools of calmer water.
Practical advice
- Location: Puertito de los Molinos, on the west coast
- Corralejo to Puertito de los Molinos = 40min drive
- Morro Jable to Puertito de los Molinos = 1h15 drive
- Tarmac road easy all the way
- For this place, you really must come when the tide is very very low.

4. Natural pools on the island of Lobos: Las Lagunitas
Why we love
The fascinating island of Lobos is one of our favorite places to visit in Fuerteventura. The small island is fascinating with its volcano and small cones, as well as its different ecosystems.
The “Las Lagunitas” natural pools are less than a 30-minute walk from the landing stage. But we’d advise you to tour the island first and finish by taking a dip in the lagoon, to cool off before setting off again.
Here, coves are protected by numerous volcanic rocks, creating large natural pools with calm waters.
Practical advice
- On the island of Lobos, north of Fuertenvetura
- Take the ferry or water cab to get there – save time by booking your ticket
- Departure of the ferry from the port of Corralejo
- Wear good walking shoes to explore the island
- Wear swimming shoes to enter the water
- Be sure to bring your own water for the day.
5. Playa Tierra Dorada lagoon
Why we love
Playa Tierra Dorada is one of our favorite beaches in Fuerteventura: it combines beautiful soft sand, a large dune and colorful cliffs.
What’s more, at low tide, the beach’s gentle slope creates a small lagoon protected from the waves. It’s the perfect way to cool off!
And it’s fun to watch the higher waves bring a little more water into the lagoon.
This place is really sublime and less crowded, as it’s further away from the city centers. We love it!
Practical advice
- It’s called Playa del Mal Nombre on GoogleMaps
- On the east coast
- Between Morro Jable and Costa Calma, in Malnombre
- Costa Calma to Playa Tierra Dorada = 15min drive
- Morro Jable to Playa Tierra Dorada = 15min drive
- The road is asphalted but has big holes on the last 300m.
- Sloping path to the beach
- Beware, however, that when it’s windy, the little grains of sand can become very prickly on your skin.

6. Sotavento Lagoon
Why we love
And of course, you can’t miss Fuerteventura’s most famous beach. Especially its Risco del Paso section.
We really enjoyed the view from the mirador, where you realize just how unique it is with its shape and the lagoon that is created at low tide. It’s the picture postcard par excellence.
It stretches for several kilometers between Costa Calma and Morro Jable. At low tide, it’s gigantic and you won’t be short of space!
What’s more, it’s surrounded by sand-covered dunes and mountains, so the scenery seems to be from another planet.
Practical advice
- Between the towns of Morro Jable and Costa Calma, in Malnombre
- On the east coast
- Costa Calma to Playa Risco del Paso = 15min drive
- Morro Jable to Playa Risco del Paso = 15min drive
- The road is paved if you come down from the expressway.
- Easy access to the beach from the parking lot
- See our dedicated article
7. El Cotillo lagoons
Why we love
If you like calm, shallow waters to cool off in, the lagoons of El Cotillo are the right option.
Far from the touristy resort hotels, the place offers a relaxing atmosphere and very pleasant natural pools.
You won’t be alone (unless you go at sunrise), but the place is pretty big and the water entry slope really is very gentle, creating some very large seawater pools!
In our opinion, the best lagoons are those of Playa de la Concha and Playa de los Charcos, north of the town of El Cotillo.
Practical advice
- Location: El Cotillo
- north of the west coast
- Corralejo to El Cotillo = 20min drive
- Morro Jable to El Cotillo = 1h30 drive
- Very easy road, ample parking
- Easy access to the beach from the parking lot
HAVE FUN WITH THESE activities
- Dolphin watching
- Boat to Lobos Island
- Buggy tour
- But also; surfing lessons, 4WD tour in Cofete, windsurfing, scuba diving…
8. Playa de Corralejo Viejo lagoon in Corralejo
Why we love
It’s a beach in the heart of the city, so it’s not very big in terms of sand and attracts far fewer people.
But we love its long stretch of sea protected by rocks. This creates a giant swimming pool, with a view over the island of Lobos.
Take a look at this photo, and tell me you don’t feel like jumping in those clear waters…
Practical advice
- In the heart of Corralejo
- North of Fuertenventura
- Morro Jable to Corralejo = 1h40 drive
- In the old town
- No nearby parking
- Easy access to the beach from the seafront promenade
- Little sand
9. Ajuy natural pool
Along the cliff to visit the famous Ajuy caves, you can see a magnificent inlet protected by rocks below.
When we saw it, we really wanted to jump out of it.
But to tell you the truth, we don’t know if it’s possible. We didn’t see anyone bathing there, didn’t see any signs (apart from the local angling permit) and couldn’t find any information on the subject.
The area is highly protected, so we doubt it’s possible But it’s so beautiful just to admire, we’re sharing it with you anyway.
