Here’s our selection of 25 of Fuerteventura’s most beautiful landscapes: beaches, viewpoints, mountains, towns, cliffs…
We hope these beautiful photos of Fuerteventura will convince you to explore the island!

Our selection of photos of the most beautiful landscapes in Fuerteventura
The selection was a little easier than for other destinations, as on the whole it’s a very dry island without much relief (the peak reaches 807m, it’s Pico de la Zarza).
However, there are plenty of wonderful places to discover all around the island and inland, some very well known and others off the beaten track.
We hope these 26 photos inspire you.
1. Sotavento lagoon, the most photographed

It’s something of an icon on the island of Fuerteventura. This beach forms a lagoon at low tide. And a viewpoint has been created to admire the most famous section, Risco del Paso.
It’s fascinating to see the immensity of the sand and the contrast of colors!
2. Lobos Island

The island of Lobos is one of our favorites in Fuertenventura. It’s a fascinating ecosystem with a large volcano, numerous small cones, a lighthouse and a surprising lagoon that is a reserve for migratory birds.
We loved walking around, exploring the different landscape types and color contrasts.
To get there, you can take..:
- the 15-minute ferry – reserve your seats
- a boat tour combining Lobos and dolphin watching – see program and availability – and book!
- A catamaran excursion – see program and availability – and book!
3. From a boat with a dolphin

Speaking of dolphins, we loved our boat trip from Morro Jable in the south. Not only did we see pilot whale dolphins, but we also enjoyed views of the Fuerteventura mountains, Morro Jable and its lighthouse.
There are tours in catamarans, speedboats and more traditional boats.
We chose the more classic boat for its comfort and the ability to move around on board. We enjoyed it very much:

OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Fuerteventura
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

4. Corralejo dunes

One of Fuerteventura’s main attractions are the sand dunes of Corralejo.
It’s a fascinating protected natural park with sand dunes right next to the beach.
Contrary to popular belief, sand does not come from the Sahara desert. It formed naturally on the island.
It’s impressive to see this immensity of dune, with mountains and volcanoes on one side and turquoise waters on the other.
Many excursions around the island include the dunes – for example, this tour for those based north of Fuerteventura.
5. Playa Tierra Dorada

We had the opportunity to see many beautiful beaches. Some are very long, with white sand as far as the eye can see. But we prefer beaches with more jagged, colorful landscapes. One of our favorites is south of Costa Calma: Playa Tierra Dorada or Playa de Malnombre.
We loved the large dune to the north, the small lagoon at low tide and the waves rolling up to the black and red cliffs to the south.
You’ll need a car to get there.
6. Cofete cliffs, classic Fuerteventura photography

Another Fuerteventura must-see: Cofete.
If you’re looking for a more wilderness adventure, this is an excellent option (unless you have back problems).
There’s only one unpaved road to get there, and the journey is long and bumpy.
But once you reach the west coast of the island, you have this magnificent view of the impressive cliffs created by the landslide.
And you can go down to the beach, when there are usually giant waves.
We advise you to join a 4×4 tour in a small group: see program and availability – and make a reservation

7. Playa del Viejo Reyes

Another very impressive beach is Playa del Viejo Reyes, in La Pared. It’s well known among surfers, but strangely little visited by tourists. And yet it’s magnificent, especially if you love rock formations and geology, as the volcanic cliffs are magnificent.
8. Mirador Sicacumbre, mountain landscape

In the mountains of Fuerteventura, you can find many viewpoints called Miradors. This astronomical viewpoint is part of the Starlight Reserve.
What’s more, on a clear day you can see the Isthmus of Jandia. The views are 360° and well worth the climb.
9. Ajuy caves

Another of our favorite places to visit in Fuerteventura. If you love geology, don’t miss it!
You start your exploration on an old black sand beach. Then walk along the cliff to see the million-year-old rock that used to be the ocean floor. You can see every detail of the seabed crust. Fascinating!
And at the end, you can descend (via a staircase) to giant sea caves with beautiful black stones. The size is very impressive.
10. La Pared cliffs, coastal landscape

La Pared is a truly impressive place. We’ve already mentioned Playa del Viejo Reyes, but we’d also recommend a visit to the other side to the north. The view is superb, especially if the waves are crashing against the rocks.

11. El Cotillo Lagoons

If you like calm, shallow waters to cool off in, the lagoons of El Cotillo are the right option.
Far from the touristy resort hotels, the place offers a relaxing atmosphere and very pleasant natural pools.
12. Aguas Verdes

If you’re up for a more strenuous hike, we recommend going to Playa Del Valle at low tide (as low as possible).
From here, walking northwards, you’ll discover magnificent rock formations and natural pools with transparent water.
But don’t forget to wear good shoes, as you’ll be doing a lot of climbing.
13. Mirador Corrales de Guize

This is the most famous viewpoint in the mountains of Fuerteventura. We really enjoyed it, with its impressive Bronez statues and unobstructed views over the plain.
14. Playa Viejo in Corralejo

Many of Corralejo’s beaches overlook the Lobos volcano. One of our favorite spots is Playa Viejo, with its clear turquoise lagoon. The view is simply fascinating!

15. Betancuria

Betancuria is the prettiest village on Fuerteventura. Founded in the 15th century, it was the island’s capital for quite some time. Its name comes from the island’s Norman conqueror: Jean de Béthencourt.
Its historic center has a lot of charm and its church is very photogenic.
16. Salt marshes

It’s always fun to visit salt marshes, and very photogenic with the intense colors of the pools and the little piles of white salt.
A very interesting visit.
17. Playa de los Ojos

In the very south of Fuerteventura, if you visit Cofete, don’t miss Ojos beach, especially at sunset.
It has to be earned after a bumpy road with holes, but its small cliffs and grotto are magnificent!
18. Puertito de Los Molinos

Another secluded spot with lots of charm.
Here you’ll find a few houses, a beautiful beach, cliffs and natural pools at very low tide.
We loved the atmosphere of the place, as if out of time but subject to the vagaries of nature.

19. La Atalayita archaeological site

The place is truly amazing: in a valley leading to the fishing port of Pozo Negro, you can see an impressive lava flow. But what you don’t see from the road (until you get there) are the primitive rock houses in the middle. In our opinion, this archaeological site is well worth a visit.
20. Caleta de Fuste Natural Pools

Caleta de Fuste is a very touristy town with lots of hotels and a large beach, which is of no interest from a landscape point of view. But if you enjoy the seafront promenade as you head north, you’ll find a rocky promontory with a natural pool that appears at low tide.
Good closed-toe shoes are a must, even if it’s just to see it from above.
21. Abandoned farm in La Florida

As we rounded a bend in the road near the village of La Florida, we were intrigued by the ruins of this farmhouse set against a backdrop of brown to orange mountains.
The landscape is quite unique. It’s just a shame that there’s not really room to stop along the road and admire it.
22. Mirador las Penitas

Another viewpoint to discover, but this time with a touch of green in the valley. This is not often the case on Fuerteventura, so we appreciate it.
23. Popcorn beaches

Near Corralejo are several beaches with what looks like popcorn on the sand. They’re actually corals. The smaller ones look like popcorn and the larger ones like cauliflower heads. But it’s the popcorn that’s chosen, surely because it inspires more…
24. Barranco Encantado

Off the beaten track, accessible only by 4WD, you can find some winding canyons carved by the elements, such as Barranco Ecantado. It’s fun to explore by imagining shapes in the rocks.
25. Mirador de Morro Jable

And finally, a slightly different viewpoint: here we are, next to the church of Morro Jable, admiring the start of the beach, the turquoise waters and the colorful old town.
