If you have time during your trip, we suggest at least one boat trip to Fuerteventura.
It’s a great way to admire the island from afar, enjoy the volcanoes and maybe see some dolphins and whales.
Here’s our guide to choosing the best boat trips in Fuerteventura.

1. Dolphin watching on a boat trip in Fuerteventura
Departure: Morro Jable, south of Fuerteventura
Duration: 2h to 5h, depending on the tour chosen
Pick-up from hotels in the south of Fuerteventura
There are no questions. One of the best boat tours from Fuerteventura is to see the dolphins.
We love the whale and dolphin watching tours. We had high hopes, and were lucky enough to see a species we’d never seen before: pilot whales (also called pilot whales, but which are dolphins). A wonderful experience with the Fuerteventura landscape in the background.
You can also often see bottlenose dolphins in the Canary Islands, including Fuerteventura.
Sightings are never guaranteed, but in this corner of Fuerteventura, the chances are excellent!
There are tours in catamarans, speedboats and more traditional boats.
We chose the more classic boat for its comfort and the ability to move around on board. We enjoyed it very much:

Most dolphin tours depart from Morro Jable, in the south of the island.
There’s also a tour of Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste.
2. Boat transfer to Lobos Island
Departure: Corralejo, north of Fuerteventura
Duration: 5 hours to one day, depending on the tour chosen
Pick-up from Corralejo hotels
Another must-do excursion is the boat trip to the island of Lobos. From Corralejo in the north of the island, it’s a 15-minute journey to the island of Lobos.
The island has scenery like we’ve never seen anywhere else, with many small cones of volcanic rock. Sometimes we felt like we were on another planet, and we love that.
You can spend the whole day on the island. There are no roads and only one car to collect the garbage. You can:
- spend some time on the beach at the foot of a volcano, with golden sands and beautiful waters
- walk around the island to discover its stunning scenery, including a feeding lagoon for migratory birds
- climb up to the lighthouse to admire the whole island
- swim in the shallow waters of the small fishing village
- or if you fancy a steeper hike, you can climb the volcano
But there are boat options where you can spend less time on the island but more time on the boat. See the options
And you can see more photos and info in our complete guide to visiting Lobos Island.

3. Boat trip to Fuerteventura on a schooner

Duration: 4h

If you like sailing and discovering beautiful boats, head south to sail on a very elegant Turkish schooner.
Discover the pleasure of sailing on this hand-built boat. The gliding sensation is phenomenal.
The tour includes swimming and dolphin watching, but this is not the main objective.
And you can enjoy lunch on board.
4. Outing on a pirate ship
Departure: Morro Jable, south of Fuerteventura
Duration: 4h

In another style, you can opt for the pirate ship: a moment of wonder for all ages.
You embark on the Pedra Santanna, and quickly move away from the coast.
On this tour, you can learn how to hoist sails, tie sailor’s knots and maneuver the ship. That makes it all the more exciting!
During the tour, you’ll stop off for a swim around the boat or in the towed pool.
You can also enjoy a delicious lunch on board with typical Canary Island dishes.
If you’re lucky, you’ll also see dolphins, but that’s not the main objective of the tour.
OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Fuerteventura
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- Demand is high, so book early.
5. Catamaran trip around Fuerteventura
Departure: several marina
Duration: 4h to 5h, depending on the tour chosen
See the charges for each tour
If you like to glide on the water, catamaran tours are available from various marinas: Morro Jable, Caleta de Fuste and Corralejo.
We love the catamaran tours, where you feel closer to the water. We love the way it feels.
These towers serve different purposes:
- See the island of Lobos to the north
- Seeing dolphins in the south
- or just browse and enjoy
They usually include lunch.
One of our favorites combines catamaran sailing and dolphin watching. It departs from Morro Jable: Check availability and book!
6. Glass-bottomed boat (ideal for young children)
Departure: Morro Jable, south of Fuerteventura
Duration: 4h
Pick-up from hotels in the south of Fuerteventura
Many boat tours are not very suitable for young children.
But here’s a tour they’ll love, and where you’ll feel safe.
Set sail from Morro Jable, and immediately descend into the boat’s hold to observe the fish and seabed! Windows have been installed. They allow you to observe without getting wet!
What’s more, on this excursion you can swim around the boat or get some exercise on a small kayak or paddleboard.
The tour includes a meal on board, with dishes from the Canary Islands.
HAVE FUN WITH THESE activities
- Dolphin watching
- Boat to Lobos Island
- Buggy tour
- But also; surfing lessons, 4WD tour in Cofete, windsurfing, scuba diving…
7. Ferry to Lanzarote
Departure: Corralejo, south of Fuerteventura
Duration: 35min crossing
Another good option during a stay in Fuerteventura is to visit the neighboring island of Lanzarote.
They are both very different, as many of Lanzarote’s landscapes are quite recent compared with Fuerteventura (eruption in the 18th century).
It’s a short ferry ride from Corralejo (north of Fuerteventura) to Playa Blanca (south of Lanzarote).
If you don’t want to organize everything yourself, you can book a complete tour with pick-up, boat and bus. You’ll be able to see:
- The volcanoes of Timanfaya National Park are impressive. A single road crosses it, with limited access. It’s surreal!
- This tour combines the park with a visit to the famous vineyards. Despite the lack of rain and the hardness of the soil, wine production is high. We’ll show you how.
You can also create your own program: shopping, enjoying certain beaches…
Simply book a tour including ferry and bus to Corralejo.
You can also choose to visit the nearby island of Lanzarote.
8. Kayak
Departure: La Lajita, south of Fuerteventura
Duration: 2h
If you’re looking for a more active boat tour, there are a few guided kayak excursions. But not much.
In the charming village of Lalita, you can climb aboard a 2-seater kayak to explore the rocky coastline. You can also stop off to snorkel underwater and admire the rich marine life around the rocks.

9. Sunset
Departure: Morro Jable or Corralejo
Duration: 2h30 to 3h
And we finish on a more romantic note.
Some companies also offer sunset tours: catamaran or boat…
Many of the places to stay in Fuerteventura are on the east coast, which is not ideal for admiring the sunsets. Take a boat away from the coast and watch the sun set behind Fuerteventura’s volcanoes!
