Playa Tierra Dorada is located in Mal Nombre, 10 minutes south of Costa Calma and 15 minutes north of Morro Jable. We really enjoyed this very long beach with its rocky landscapes and exceptional colors. Although it has a wild feel, this beach has a number of amenities (a restaurant, sanitary facilities, sunbeds and umbrellas…) making it an ideal place to relax!

Why visit Playa de Mal Nombre near Costa Calma?
Is it worth it?
In our opinion, this beach is well worth a visit! It’s one of our favorites, and we’ve listed it among the 15 most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura. We particularly like the wilderness, the clear water and the diversity of landscapes. To the north, there was a large sand dune, ideal for admiring the beach. At low tide, lagoons formed in the center, while to the south, small dunes licked the dark cliffs. With their bright, varied colors, they were a real eye-catcher!

Why choose this beach?
Playa Tierra Dorada is the ideal place for an unforgettable vacation. Here are the 3 main reasons to go, in our opinion:

- Exceptional colors: the shades of color on this beach are breathtaking. The water is clear turquoise with green tones, the sand is golden with touches of black, and the rocks offer gradations of brown, grey and black!

OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Fuerteventura
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- Demand is high, so book early.

How to get there – access road
The only way to get to Playa Tierra Dorada is by car. From the island’s main road, the FV-2, follow the signs to Mal Nombre. Once you’ve taken exit 77 towards Mal Nombre, you’ll take a tarmac road in good condition which will lead you to a first large parking lot, with houses.
Then take another tarmac road towards the beach and the Tierra Dorada restaurant. We recommend that you drive slowly and carefully on this track, which is in poor condition and has many holes.

Parking de la Playa de Mal Nombre
On arriving at the beach, you’ll find a large free parking lot.

Access to the beach from the parking lot
There is a slope from the parking lot to access Playa Tierra Dorada. The path is stony, so we recommend you take good shoes. To reach the sand more quickly, you can take the wooden pontoon bridge to the Tierra Dorada restaurant.

On the sand and in the water…practical advice
Best time to visit
The best time of year to go to Playa Tierra Dorada depends on individual preferences. However, the peak tourist season on the Canary Islands is between December and April, but also during the 2 summer months, which means that the beach will be busier at these times. However, this beach is still little-known, so it’s easy to find a place to stay all year round. To find out when to go to Fuerteventura, take a look at our dedicated article!

As for the best time of day, it’s best to visit the beach early in the morning or late in the afternoon, to avoid the heat peak and enjoy more peace and quiet. It’s especially busy between 12pm and 5pm. We especially recommend going at low tide, so you can enjoy the full length of the beach and lagoons!
Beach type and size
Playa Tierra Dorada’s floor is made up of fine white and golden sand, with a touch of black sand. It stretches 1.3km in length and 50m in width. It is bordered by rocky cliffs where many squirrels nest! Facing south-east, it’s ideal for enjoying the sunrise.

Conditions for swimming
As far as slope and water depth are concerned, the descent will be gentle. You can also take advantage of the lagoons that form at low tide for a gradual entry into the Atlantic Ocean. As for the quality of the water, it’s often translucent and a magnificent turquoise blue. However, as on all beaches, it is important to remain vigilant and to respect the safety rules at sea.
