When to go to Fuerteventura – Weather and conditions
When is the best time to visit and enjoy exceptional weather?
Climate
The climate in Fuerteventura is that of eternal spring.
It rarely rains.
You’ll enjoy year-round sunshine.
It’s hot in summer, but rarely too hot.
It’s warm in winter: a t-shirt during the day with an average temperature of 20 to 22°C, and a light sweater in the evening with an average temperature of 16 to 18°C.
North or South?
The climate is the same whether you go north or south. It all depends on the type of city and activities you’re looking for.
See our article comparing north and south.
Length of day and sunshine
The Canary Islands and Fuerteventura are closer to the equator, so the days are a little longer in winter than in Europe. The average length of day is:
- 10:20 am, the shortest day of the year, December 21
- 13:56, the longest day, June 21.
In terms of sunshine, Fuerteventura enjoys plenty of it: over 3,000 hours a year!
So you can enjoy plenty of sunshine, whether you go there in summer or even winter.
Rain in Fuerteventura
The island of Fuerteventura receives very little rain. Its summit is 806m above sea level, not enough to stop the clouds. In fact, you’ll see very little vegetation on the island.
Wind in Fuerteventura
Yes, it’s windy in Fuerteventura. It’s a fact. Some believe the island’s name comes from the Spanish word for “strong wind” (viento fuerte).
However, it’s often a welcome refreshment, and rarely a problem in our opinion. And he’s not there all the time.
The two windiest months in Fuerteventura are normally July and August.
This is actually good news, as it makes temperatures bearable.
And the wind isn’t blowing hard all the time!
