1. Climate in Fuerteventura in February – weather forecast

In the Canary Islands, the climate varies little between seasons. However, it varies from island to island.

Fuerteventura is one of the islands closest to Africa. It’s also one of the least rainy. The climate is relatively warm and dry all year round.

February temperatures are around 18°C (64°F) and there’s hardly any rain. The Canary Current, which runs between Morocco and Fuerteventura, keeps the sea cool in all seasons. Like the rest of the year, the winds are very present. Note that in February, the calima, a warm wind laden with sand from the Sahara, is more frequent and blows lower. It then raises temperatures on the island and causes a yellow haze to appear.

Are you more of a hiking fan? Enjoy the mountains without hesitation.

Aguas Verdes

2. February temperatures in Fuerteventura

Temperatures generally average no more than 30°C (86°F). However, the calima, a particularly hot wind event, can heat up the atmosphere.

Temperatures in Puerto del Rosario:

  • 18°C (64°F) on average
  • Number of days with average temperature above 18°C = 20

Temperatures in Corralejo:

  • 18°C (64°F) on average
  • Number of days with average temperature above 18°C = 20

Temperatures in Morro Jable:

  • 18°C (64°F) on average
  • Number of days with average temperatures above 18°C = 22

Temperatures in the mountains

In the mountains, it all depends on your altitude. The higher you go, the windier and colder it gets. However, the highest peak is only 800 meters high: it doesn’t snow there.

6. Wind in Fuerteventura in February

The wind blows all year round on the Canary Islands. That’s because they’re located in the Atlantic Ocean, with no surrounding obstacles to stop it. Fuerteventura is the windiest. It’s nicknamed “the island of the winds”. Don’t worry: it won’t interfere with tourist activities.

The wind blows the most on the open spaces and seashores, but the wind you feel also depends on your position on the island and the direction in which it blows.

The trade winds guarantee constant waves along the coast. We also enjoy water sports such as surfing and windsurfing. As for the chergui, an African wind, it warms the island in winter.

Several times a year, the latter transforms into a calima, a wind laden with dust and sand from the Sahara. These episodes often last several days and are difficult to predict. In February, they are more frequent and more intense. The temperature then rises, sometimes up to +10°C (50°F). A yellow haze affects visibility. The most serious cases can slow down local life and force those sensitive to dust to protect themselves, but in general, calima doesn’t prevent you from enjoying the island.
