Playa del Castillo is an ideal destination for a relaxing day out. With a shallow turquoise lagoon and few waves, it’s a beach accessible to all. In fact, we’ve listed it among Fuerteventura’s best beaches.
In our opinion, here are the 3 main reasons to go there:
- Easy access: the beach is easily accessible by car and on foot. It’s only a ten-minute walk to the center, and can be reached by bus from the capital (Puerto del Rosario), as well as from Morro Jable and the airport (lines 10 and 16).
- Amenities: it’s lined with restaurants, bars and hotels. It is also equipped with facilities for leisure activities, making it an ideal place to enjoy yourself.
- Its gentle slope: with a shallow lagoon, few waves and a large sandy area, it’s the perfect beach for safe swimming.
All these advantages make it one of Caleta de Fuste’s main attractions.

On the sand and in the water…practical advice
Best time to visit
Because of its convenience and easy access, this downtown beach is quite popular. We advise you to arrive in the morning, especially during the summer season.
Beach type and size
The beach is fine golden sand, with a few rocks at the end. It’s a relatively large beach. We enjoyed its large sandy area.
Conditions for swimming
The gentle slope is ideal for children. There are few waves and little depth. The water is turquoise and of good quality, given Playa del Castillo’s blue flag status. However, due to the risk of currents, it is preferable to swim in it when it is supervised.

What to see on and around the beach
La Torre de San Buenaventura
This listed defense tower was built in the 18th century. It is 6m thick. If you head towards the harbour from the seafront promenade, you won’t be able to miss it!
The port
Don’t hesitate to take a trip to the port, a little further north, which offers a wide range of water sports.
The natural swimming pool
If you’re more of a rocky coast fan, we suggest you head even further north to discover a natural swimming pool, visible at low tide. From the seafront promenade, you have to scramble over the rocks to observe it from the rocky promontory. For more ideas on what to do in Caleta de Fuste, see our dedicated article.
