Fuerteventura is known as the island with the most beautiful beaches in the Canaries: fine sand, black rocks, turquoise waters…. we agree!
It was a tough selection, but here’s our list of Fuerteventura’s most beautiful beaches all around the island, with our own photos – and a map at the end of the article.

This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.

Our favorite car rental platform: DiscoverCars
1. Playa Sotavento de Jandia

Why do we love it?
This is Fuerteventura’s best-known beach. It stretches for several kilometers between Costa Calma and Morro Jable. At low tide, it’s gigantic and you won’t be short of space!
We really enjoyed the view from the mirador, where you realize just how unique it is with its shape and the lagoon that is created at low tide.
What’s more, it’s surrounded by sand-covered dunes and mountains, so the scenery seems to be from another planet.

- Driving time from Morro Jable = 10 to 15 min depending on departure point
- Driving time from Corralejo = 1h20

- Toilets and shower at the end of the beach
- No deckchairs

- See our article dedicated to the Sotavento de Jandia lagoon
2. Playa del Viejo Reyes

Why do we love it?
We like more dramatic landscapes, and for us, one of Fuerteventura’s most beautiful beaches is at La Pared. Playa del Viejo Reyes is popular for learning to surf, but also boasts some of the most beautiful cliffs on the island. In fact, it’s one of our top 9 most beautiful beaches to visit around Costa Calma.
We recommend descending at low tide to admire the different rock structures. Fascinating.
It is about 800m long.

Location and access
- In the small west coast town of La Pared

3. Playa Tierra Dorada (Mal Nombre)

Why do we love it?
We were very pleasantly surprised by this beach, which was one of our favorites in the south of Fuerteventura.
Admittedly, the wind has picked up and the sand has stung us, but the scenery is idyllic.
To the north, a large sand dune has formed, allowing us to get some height to admire the beach.
In the center, lagoons form at low tide, providing a cool, quiet spot to cool off, and to the south, small dunes form against the dark-colored cliffs.
The mix of colors is exceptional.

Location and access
- On the south-east coast
- Between Morro Jable and Costa Calma
- Driving time from Morro Jable = 10 to 15min depending on departure point

4. Playa de Cofete

Why do we love it?
Cofete is one of the most famous and grandiose places to see on Fuerteventura.
If you’re looking for a more wilderness adventure, this is an excellent option (unless you have back problems).
There’s only one unpaved road to get there, and the journey is long and bumpy.
But once you reach the west coast of the island, you have this magnificent view of the impressive cliffs created by the landslide.
And you can go down to the beach, when there are usually giant waves.

Location and access
- In the very south of the island
- Unsurfaced road from Morro Jable
- We advise you to join a 4×4 tour: see program and availability – and make a reservation
- be careful, if you use a rental car, you may not be covered by insurance on this type of road.
Practical information
- completely wild
- strong waves
OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Fuerteventura

- A small car is all you need.
- But you can also choose a larger one if you wish, as the parking spaces are rather large.
- Demand is high, so book early.

5. Puertito de los Molinos

Why we love
First of all, we love it because Puertito de los Molinos is a beautiful, adorable place.
It has a lot to offer: a few white houses of a fishing village, a beautiful golden sandy beach, a colorful cliff, and rocks with natural pools.
Come at low tide to enjoy the large sandy beach and pools. Beware, however, that there are dangerous currents in the area.
And if the tide is really low (and you pay attention to the timetable), you can even discover large caves on the southern part of the beach.

6. Playa Alzada (Corralejo Dunes)

Why do we love it?
Among the beaches surrounded by the dunes of Corralejo, many choose the large beaches close to the town.
We prefer Playa Alzada, a little further south in the natural park.
This is a wilder beach where the contrast between the golden-white sand, the black lava stones and the turquoise water is clearly visible.

Location and access
- East coast, north of the island
- In the natural park south of Corralejo
- Driving time from Morro Jable = 1h30
- Driving time from Costa Calma = 1h15
- Driving time from Corralejo = 10min

7. Playa de la Concha (El Cotillo)

Why do we love it?
One of the few beaches on the east coast with calm waters and lagoons.
It’s a popular place to cool off.
At El Cotillo, this is one of the beaches furthest from any building. We like its slightly wilder side, with shallow emerald waters.
Most of the time, the waters here are calm without large waves, thanks to the rocky reefs. It also offers great snorkeling opportunities.

Location and access
- North-west coast
- North of the town of El Cotillo

8. Playa del Matorral – for a long walk in the sand

Why do we love it?
At Morro Jable, a very long sandy beach stretches for several kilometers: Playa del Matorral. It’s perfect for those of us who love long walks with our feet in the water and sand.
It is divided into 3 sections, with the two busiest in the south:
The narrower area around the old center of Morro Jable. It has a great atmosphere and a nice view of the city.
In the center, the sand section becomes extremely wide. We love the open spaces between the beach and the protected wetlands. Here you can breathe and find a little corner of calm.
It’s easy to find your way around thanks to the lighthouse in the middle, as the expanse of sand makes it easy to wonder where your things are once you’re in the water.

- Driving time from Morro Jable = 0

9. Playa de la Concha / Calera de Lobos (Lobos Island)

Why do we love it?
The island of Lobos is one of our favorites in Fuertenventura. It’s a fascinating ecosystem with a large volcano, numerous small cones, a lighthouse and a surprising lagoon that is a reserve for migratory birds.
We loved walking around, exploring the different landscape types and color contrasts.
At Playa de la Concha, we love the mix of sand and rock, the cove shape and the view of the volcano behind it, Montana de la Caldera.
Location and access

To get there, you can take..:
- the 15-minute ferry – reserve your seats
- a boat tour combining Lobos and dolphin watching – see program and availability – and book!
Then it’s less than 10 minutes’ walk to the beach from the boat landing stage.
Practical information
- Golden-white sand with some black stones
- Unsupervised beach
- No facilities or garbage cans
- Rather long beach
- No grey areas
10. Playa Viejo Corralejo

Why do we love it?
The town of Corralejo has several beaches right in the center of town, which is very pleasant.
The most popular is Playa de los Verilitos, but we’ve fallen in love with Playa de Corralejo Viejo.
We love the long, shallow lagoon that forms between the rocks.
Ideal for simply walking in the water and cooling off.
What’s more, the beach faces the island of Lobos and its volcano.
But we recommend enjoying it at high tide!

11. Grandes Playas de Corralejo

Why do we love it?
Located at the start of the Corralejo dunes nature park, this is a very long beach with fine sand, turquoise waters and beautiful waves to splash in.
We particularly like the waterside walk to the south, with its endless sand and volcanic coastline.
However, we don’t like the walk in the other direction with the hotel building…

Location and access
- East coast, north of the island
- In the natural park south of Corralejo

- Driving time from Costa Calma = 1h15
- Driving time from Corralejo = 10min

- The beach faces east, ideal for sunrises

Right in the heart of the town, Costa Calma beach is 2 kilometers long at low tide, making it ideal for a morning stroll with your feet in the water.
Its golden sand is surrounded by a little vegetation and offers views of Fuerteventura’s small mountains in the background.
The waters are turquoise, with almost always wind and waves, but not too many, hence the name Costa Calma.
We particularly appreciated the view of the beach from the seafront promenade.

12. Playa del Castillo, Caleta de Fuste

Why do we love it?
The main attraction of Caleta de Fuste (also known as CDF) is its beach. It’s called Playa del Castillo.
If you’re traveling with young children, this is one of the best beaches on the island.
It’s not the most beautiful, but it’s very practical, with a very large sandy area and a shallow lagoon with few waves.
For those who like to sunbathe on the sand and sit back and relax in the turquoise waters, this is a good option.

If you’re tired of beautiful white or golden sand, why not spend some time on a black sand beach!
We really enjoyed the one at Las Playitas, and not just because of the village festivities.
We love the shape of this beautiful cove with cliffs on both sides.

Near Corralejo are several beaches with what looks like popcorn on the sand. They’re actually corals. The smaller ones look like popcorn and the larger ones like cauliflower heads. But it’s the popcorn that’s chosen, surely because it’s more inspiring…
